Emmerick Doan graduated in May 2019 from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach with a degree in instrumental music education. He has studied and worked with Steve Trapani, Jermie Arnold, and Tamara Thies. During his time at CSU Long Beach, Emmerick was the CSULB NAfME chapter president and performed with the Bob Cole Conservatory Concert Band as a tenor trombonist. He is currently student teaching at Orangeview JHS and Magnolia HS, and is also a drum major adjudicator for the Student Academy of Musical Leaders. During his student teaching placement, Emmerick was the recipient of the Outstanding Initial Credential Student award, given by the College of Education in 2021.

Emmerick grew up in the city of South El Monte, California where he went to South El Monte High School. He graduated in 2015 with top honors in his class. During his high school career, he was the head drum major of his marching band, where he led them to a number of awards and recognitions throughout Southern California. Emmerick had the amazing opportunity to perform with the Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band and the El Monte Union High School District Honor Band.

Aside from his music career, Emmerick is also a member of the Union of Vietnamese Students Associations of Southern California, where he served as the Vice Chairman for the 2020 UVSA Tet Festival, and as the Chairman for the 2021 Leadership Summit. He currently serves as the Programming Director for the Union of North American Vietnamese Student Association (UNAVSA)'s 2nd Annual Virtual Experience Leadership Conference.
